(A day late.)
Easter Monday.
Many of us spent yesterday in some sort of religious observance. Followers of Jesus Christ marked the appointed day of His resurrection and the salvation of all humankind. No small thing. But after the liturgies and sermons are over, after Holy Mass is said, and we have all had our fill of ham, or lamb, and scalloped potaoes, many of us may find ourselves today left with questions.
If we were to somehow set aside our differences as people. If we could, for a moment, sequester the parts of us so easily recruited to oppose one another, we might agree that the spiritual salvation of every man, woman, and child who has ever existed, or will exist, in the entirety of the human timeline, is kind of a big deal. "The greatest story ever told," some might say.
But what does the salvation of all of humankind look like at the individual level?
Well, I suppose I could tell my own story, but I don't think it holds the weight required for today. Instead, I'd like to direct you, if you are so inclined to the book, "The Man in Black" by Mr. Johnny Cash. If there was ever a human being who knew pain, love, success, despair, hatred, hardship, and the power of salvation, it was him.
The autobiography describes Cash's life, punctuated by loss, addiction, adultery, and sorrow. But it is no tale of woe or tragic life. It is a tale of victory. A story of the power of redemption and salvation through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
How one man can go from having it all and almost losing it to giving it all in the name of some higher calling is an inspiring story to read.
Highly recommended.
Anyway, have a great week.
Be safe.Be blessed.
Much love.
